McMurray Metals Co.

Same company, same metals, same two Texas yards and the same tartan and medallion. The redesign keeps what McMurray is known for and makes it easier to find a metal, call the right yard and start a request, on any screen. Here is what changed and why.

The brand

Their brand, sharpened.

The medallion, the green and the tartan stay. A quieter finish lets the metal and the phone numbers lead.

  • Archivo for headlines
  • Barlow for everything else
  • McMurray green#143E32
  • Brass#8B682D

  • Ink#182F28

What changed

7 changes. Each one has a reason.

Say what you sell on the first screen

Before
Current first screen: a brass button panel on the left and four paragraphs of white text on black
After
New first screen: headline Brass, bronze and copper. Know where to find it, two buttons and a photo of bar stock

What changed

Four paragraphs on black became one headline, one sentence and two buttons, next to a photo of the material.

Why

A buyer decides in a few seconds whether they are in the right place. Brass, bronze and copper, stated plainly, keeps them on the page.

Menus anyone can read

Before
Brass control panel with round buttons and labels for Contact, About Us, Brass, Bronze, Copper, Misc. Metals, Processing and Architectural Products
After
New header with the medallion, four text links and a Request a quote button above the headline

What changed

The menu labels are pictures of words inside a brass panel. They are now real text links, with a Request a quote button always at the top.

Why

Text links stay sharp on every screen, can be read by Google and screen readers, and leave room for one clear next step.

Show the metal, then the shapes

Before
A dense block of small underlined links listing every metal and shape
After
Six material cards with a photo of each metal: brass, bronze, copper, aluminum bronze, naval and red brass, nickel silver

What changed

The full catalog sits in a block of small links at the bottom. Now each metal has its own card with a photo. Tap it to see the shapes normally stocked and add them to a quote.

Why

People recognize brass or copper by sight faster than by reading a list. Building the request while browsing means fewer back-and-forth calls.

Material photos on the preview are stand-ins. The finished site will use photos of McMurray’s own stock.

Give processing and architectural their own space

New
Architectural section: brass rail fittings photo with a list of brackets, flanges, handrails, end caps, angles, polished tubing and wait stationsProcessing section on dark green: Your material. To your specifications, with a Discuss processing button

What changed

Today both are one button each in the side panel. On the new home page each gets a section with a photo, what is offered and a button to ask about it.

Why

Cut-to-size and architectural brass win jobs beyond bar stock. Visitors should see them without having to go looking.

Both yards, one tap away

Before
Small text block with both yard addresses and phone numbers below the main text
After
A strip right under the first screen with the Dallas and Houston numbersContact section with both yards, local and toll-free numbers, and a quote request form

What changed

The yard numbers sit in small text under the paragraphs. Now both yards are in a strip right under the first screen, and again in a contact section with local and toll-free numbers and a quote form that fills in from the metal cards.

Why

Orders start with a call. The right number should be in view the moment someone is ready.

Keep the brand, refine the finish

Before
Current banner: tartan with gold McMurray Metals Co. lettering and the toll-free number
After
New footer with a softened version of the same tartan behind the company name and links

What changed

The medallion, the green and the brass stay. The tartan is the exact same pattern, softened and used as the footer and as a subtle texture when you hover a button.

Why

85 years of recognition is worth keeping. A quieter finish lets the metal and the phone numbers lead.

One site for the phone in your hand

Before
Current mobile site: logo banner, directory bar and a shop photo
After
New site on a phone with headline, buttons and Request a quote at the top

What changed

Phones are sent to a separate mobile site, which lists the Dallas yard only. The new site is one responsive page, with both yards and Request a quote on every screen size.

Why

Contractors look up suppliers from the truck or the shop floor. One site means one set of information to keep current.

The site is theirs: domain, code and content. When something changes at the business, they text Foreman™ and approve the preview.
